Equine Touch

What is The Equine Touch?

The Equine Touch has been described by leading equine vets
as the ultimate hands on therapy for horses Jock Ruddock

Europe's leading Bowen specialist and instructor Jock Ruddock developed The Equine Touch in 1997, and with the help of his veterinary surgeon wife Ivana, has amended and evolved his approach to where The Equine Touch is now recognised as an equine care discipline worldwide from Norway to the United States.

A gentle and effective bodywork

My pony has shown quite a significant change in her movement, she appears substantially freer in the shoulder, she is taking a bigger stride and is just swinging along in the trot
- all of which I find quite mind blowing seeing how 'little' you seemed to do

The Equine Touch is a non-diagnostic, non-invasive, gentle, hands-on soft tissue discipline that works at a completely holistic level, addressing the horse as a whole without any particular focus on any individual problem area of the body.

Giving Equine Touch to a horseOn a practical level it consists of a series of gentle moves in a predetermined pattern over specific points on the body. These moves are interspersed with waiting periods to allow time for the horse to recognise and process these subtle procedures which can have the effect of:

  • inducing deep relaxation
  • releasing hyper tonic and traumatised muscles
  • encouraging muscle tone
  • enabling recovery from injury and atrophy
  • alleviating the pain spiral,
  • and assisting in detoxification and lymphatic drainage.

The reaction in my horse appears to be more emotional, she is very relaxed and is also more forward when under saddle, but still retains her sparkle

The horse through this series of gentle moves is trained to rebalance not only physically, but also emotionally. Energy blocks are released, and the flow of Ki is stimulated through the meridians, allowing the horse to achieve an ideal state for its own healing power to work to its maximum potential.

Please note I hold an Equine Touch Diploma but I am currently taking a break from being a practitioner and am not currently licensed as an Equine Touch Practitioner.
