Healing for horses

How can healing help your horse?
Giving healing to a Highland pony

Healing is powerful but gentle and can be beneficial for healing both physical and emotional conditions in horses. For example, healing can encourage the horse to relax and clear out old useless memories which are creating fear and thereby tension in the body which may cause muscle spasm and associated problems.

Healing helps restore balance to all the systems and can help the body to recover more quickly from illness and injury.
The aim of healing is to bring back the body to health, whatever the problem or symptom and therefore it is not a diagnostic tool. It is important that a full veterinary diagnosis is obtained before a session and that healing is carried out with the permission of the veterinary surgeon. More on healing

What happens during a healing session?

The healer scans the horses body for differences in the energy field and channels healing energies from the universe to your horse, for it to receive and use wherever it is needed. This stimulates the horses innate healing ability to bring the body back into a state of harmony. Most horses relax and enjoy the experience although initially some horses may twitch, shuffle, stamp or move away as they feel the energy flowing through the body and are unsure what is happening. They will often lick and chew or yawn, they may look sleepy or the bottom lip droops and quivers.

One session may be enough, but in chronic cases, healing may need to be given regularly over a period of a few weeks or months. Mostly results are progressive and appear over a period of time

Healing horse and rider

Giving healing to a horseBecause of the close nature of the relationship between horse and rider it is important that they are not treated as two separate entities but as a whole. Sadly it is true that many of the problems horses have are caused by their owners and in some cases the horse may even reflect the physical or emotional problems of the owner. Many of us buy or choose horses that in many ways reflect our own personalities and as the horse exhibits our own behaviours we often become more and more stressed and tense. For example, we all know tense people who produce tense horses and laid back riders who have chilled out horses!

Because of this, the same treatments can work as effectively on both horse and rider (see rider body balancing) and many people once they see the benefits and relaxation of healing upon their horse are keen to try it for themselves. In our busy lives today it is all to easy to bring the stresses and strains of daily living into our relationship with our horses. Does your horse welcome you to the yard?or do they scuttle to the back of the stable, knowing you have had a bad day and they are likely to bear the brunt of it? A happier and relaxed owner, means a happier and relaxed horse.

Harmonising the horse's environment

Healing wont be as effective, or effective at all if the horse is living in a stable or yard with geopathic or electromagnetic disturbance. The Holistic Touch takes into consideration the need to harmonise the environment and can suggest some simple solutions for the horse owner to implement. More complex yard harmonisations can be carried out by Felicity Wilson of the Charles Siddle Foundation for Animal Healing.

When giving healing to a horse it is important to consider other factors which may influence the success of the healing process e.g. stable management, nutrition, handling, shoeing and foot balance.

Distant healing

Healing can be sent over a long distance by the power of thought and is often as effective as having a healer present. The Holistic Touch maintains a distant healing list for clients and if you would like your horse to be added to the list, please email details of the horse, its name, age, sex and problem and it will be added to the list.
