Rider body balancing

Do you suffer from muscle pain and stiffness? Do you feel you ride with more weight in one stirrup than the other? Has your riding instructor commented that you are lopsided when you ride?

One of the strongest factors in preventing a horse working in harmony with a rider is the rider. The more the rider is out of physical balance, the more difficult it will be for the horse to achieve its own balance. Therefore, when considering any problem in the ridden horse, it is useful to take the physical balance of the rider into account.

How can an Equine Touch Practitioner help?

Giving a basic rider body balance to a clientEquine Touch practitioners are able to recognise imbalances in the rider from experience with human bodywork during their equine training. In some instances practitioners can actually address the problems that they find in the rider through this basic body balancing system. Many practitioners take the human work a stage further and learn the human equivalent of Equine Touch, called Vibromuscular Harmonisation Technique (VHT) for more in depth body balance and postural integration.

An Equine Touch practitioner can help both horse and rider find an ideal balance to encourage the ridden partnership to work in harmony.

What is the basic body balancing system?

As with the horse, the 'basic body balance' for humans is a sequence of pre-determined moves over the whole body, which helps to address:
  • muscle spasm
  • chronic compensation
  • pain and stiffness.
The moves are very gentle and non-invasive, but help re-educate the body to achieve its ideal balance and state of homeostasis. The treatment also induces a sense of relaxation and well being. As we often bring the stresses and strains of our work and domestic lives into our relationship with the horse, encouraging relaxation can be very beneficial for both rider and horse.

Working on a client in a yardUsing a mobile therapy couch, the treatment on the rider can be carried out during the visit to the horse. Clients remain fully clothed.
